Wildfire has burned at least 250 acres
SAN JACINTO, Calif. (AP) — About 60 homes in the Southern California desert community of San Jacinto are under evacuation as firefighters work to contain a small wildfire.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the fire broke out shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday about 50 miles west of Palm Springs.
The fire chewed about 250 acres of heavy brush in the Juniper Flats area and was 20 percent contained.
The flames threatened a subdivision in San Jacinto, prompting authorities to issue mandatory evacuation for about 60 recently built homes there.
More than 200 firefighters assisted by two air tankers and one helicopter were battling the blaze.
