Engineer Cory Iverson died while fighting the Thomas Fire

 

 

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Engineer Cory Iverson, 32, of CAL FIRE on December 14, 2017.

Engineer Cory Iverson died while fighting the Thomas Fire near Fillmore, California. The nature and cause of Iverson’s death has not been released pending a Cal Fire serious accident review. Engineer Iverson was part of a multi-engine strike team dispatched from the San Diego area more than a week ago to fight some of the largest fires in California’s history.

Fatality status is provisional and may change as USFA contacts State Fire Marshals to verify fatality incident information.
