Squad Boss dies fighting El Dorado Fire

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter Charles Morton, 39, of the San Bernardino National Forest, Big Bear Hotshots, on September 17, 2020.

Firefighter Charles Morton, Squad Boss on the Big Bear Interagency Hotshot Crew, died during interagency fire suppression activities on the El Dorado Fire in the San Bernardino National Forest in California on September 17, 2020. The Big Bear Hotshots are local to the San Bernardino National Forest.

Tribute is being paid to Firefighter Morton at http://apps.usfa.fema.gov/firefighter-fatalities/

To date, 63 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2020. Year-to-date and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/ff_fatality_reports.html
