Crews Attack Wildfire in Nevada Conservation Area

Fire has burned about 10 acres

LAS VEGAS (AP) — An official says 50 county, state and federal firefighters and several aircraft are attacking a wildfire near a popular hiking trail at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area outside Las Vegas.

Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Kirsten Cannon said Friday the fire was about 10 acres (4 hectares) when it was reported burning grass and shrubs a little after 6 a.m. in the Pine Creek area.

A cause wasn’t immediately determined.

The one-way 13-Mile Scenic Drive through the area remains open, but the Pine Creek parking area and trail are closed.

Red Rock conservation area is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of the Las Vegas Strip.
