Maui (HI) Firefighters Tell of Fighting and Surviving the Lahaina Fire on 60 Minutes

Four Maui firefighters sat down with CBS’ 60- Minutes to recall their struggles with the Aug. 8 wildfire in Lahaina that destroyed the town.

Firefighters Aina Kohler, Keahi Ho, Tanner Mosher, and Captain Jay Fujita recalled how they started out trying to fight the fire only to have to shelter-in-place in their fire engine before finally making a mad rush to safety in a borrowed police SUV.

They encountered about every kind of obstacle you can imagine, including winds that blew their fire stream away before it could reach the fire, failed water supplies and a burned-over fire engine.
