The IAFC is conducting a survey to locate, map, and define the Aerial Helicopter Firefighting Capabilities around the world. This data will be used to help show the capabilities that exist and to provide information of those capabilities.

Helicopters have been used for the control of wildland fires since the mid-1960s. As wildland incidents continue to grow both in frequency and size, the IAFC continues to support nationwide mitigation efforts.

The National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Standards for Wildland Fire Resource Typing has been used to build this survey. This data will demonstrate the capabilities that exist and inform future wildland fire mitigation efforts.
