The class presents company officers and firefighters with the information necessary to accurately assess the fire potential in the dynamic wildland fire environment and to establish corresponding tactical decision points to enhance crew safety. The focus is on identifying the critical ingredients of extreme fire behavior potential, setting tactical decision points to enhance crew safety while engaged, and a systematic approach to the constant evaluation of situational awareness before and during tactical assignment. Critical elements of fire behavior and spatial awareness topics are covered in a concentrated and operational-based format for immediate use by firefighters.

The class will utilize lecture with supporting PowerPoint presentation, photographs and videos to deliver critical situational awareness and life safety skills for Company Officers in the Wildland Fire Environment. A scenario based training situation will be delivered for students to demonstrate their skills of critical decision making and fire potential recognition.
