Oregon National Guardsmen Complete Red Card Training

SALEM, Oregon – Approximately 400 Oregon National Guardsman completed wildland firefighter training to receive their “Red Card”, June 11-17, 2020 in Salem, Ore.

The training was provided by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). The Oregon National Guard (ORNG) has an ongoing agreement with the Oregon Department of Forestry, called Operation Plan Smokey, that dictates how the ORNG can be used to assist the state in fighting fires.

Since 2015, Oregon has called upon 2,148 ORNG members to assist in protecting it’s citizens and communities from wildfires.
