CONGRESS, Ariz. (AP) — A human-caused wildfire burning Wednesday in north-central Arizona near the small town of Congress has forced some evacuations, authorities said.

Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the wildfire had charred about 100 acres (0.15 square miles) by late Wednesday afternoon.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials said eight homes have been evacuated in the Ox Ranch area.

They said the fire is about nine miles (14 kilometers) northwest of Congress and had destroyed two structures and was threatening five more.

Crew were battling the wildfire from the air and ground to slow its movement and protect nearby structures, according to authorities.
