Wyoming Wildfire Continues to Grow

Subdivisions south of Jackson are evacuated

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A wildfire that has burned one home and threatens hundreds of others continues to grow in western Wyoming.

The Roosevelt Fire as of Friday had burned 54 square miles (140 square kilometers) of private land and Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Temperatures are cool — in the 50s and 60s (10-15 degrees Celsius) — but wind is helping the fire spread. The fire still isn’t contained though large, jet-powered air tankers are dumping fire retardant ahead of the flames.

Firefighters are also using several bulldozers, engines and water-dropping helicopters to try to contain the fire.

Several rural subdivisions are evacuated in the area 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of Jackson but nobody is hurt. The cause remains unknown.
