Alaska Wildfire Continues to Grow

Fire near Tok has burned 1.2 square miles

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A wildfire off the Alaska Highway has grown but has not caused traffic delays.

The Alaska Division of Forestry says the fire is estimated at 1.2 square miles (3.1 sq. kilometers) about 30 miles northwest of Tok (TOHK).

The fire is burning in black spruce 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) west of the highway and 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) north of the Robertson River.

Drivers reported the fire late Thursday morning. The Division of Forestry dropped retardant and water on the fire but it grew in warm, dry conditions.

Fire officials say the fire likely was human-caused.
