Pack Test Prepares Arizona Firefighters for Wildfire Season

Rural Metro firefighters start the season with certification test

 

TUCSON (KVOA) – Firefighters go through countless hours of physical and educational training to fight wildfires, Rural-Metro Fire Department was back at it on Wednesday to make sure they’re ready to go at a moment’s notice if called into action.

Part of the certification for a firefighter to be able to fight wildfires is a pack test. To complete this test, they have to carry a 45 pound vest for 3 miles in under 45 minutes. Rural-Metro wildland firefighter, Dale Jansen, makes this pack test look easy.
