Reward Offered for Information on Virginia Wildfire

Goshen Pass Fire as burned nearly 3,000 acres

GOSHEN, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Department of Forestry is offering a reward for information on a possible act of arson in a Rockbridge County bush fire that burned nearly 3,000 acres.

News outlets report the State Forester Bettina Ring said in a news release that they’ve authorized a reward of up to $2,000 for anyone who provides information that leads to a conviction in connection with the Goshen Pass fire.

The brush fire, which started April 10, has been difficult to extinguish because of high winds and relatively low humidity. Crews don’t want the fire to spread because it’s on a 30,000-acre Goshen Wildlife Management Area.

Officials say that by Monday, the fire was 95 percent contained.

Authorities say woods arson is a felony in Virginia and carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.
