CA Slaps Parents with $675,000 Tab for Wildland Fire Their Kids Started While Camping

The State of California is suing the parents of two children who started a 2020 wildland fire that spread to over 100 acres.

The Skyline 3 Fire started at the Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul at 1:08 pm on June 11, 2020, and burned for three days, according to CalFire.

In a lawsuit, the state argues that two young children, identified only as Joy and Nathan, started the fire playing with the family’s camp fire while they were camping.

The suit charges that the children had started a fire three days earlier in a similar way, and that the parents still failed to exercise control over the children and the campfire to prevent them from spreading the fire, CBS 8 reports.

The total tab for firefighting activities that the parents are asked to pay is $675,000.
