Pilot Mountain (NC) Fire Spreads to 300 Acres, Rocky Terrain Slows Containment

Crews struggled with rocky terrain Sunday in battling the Pilot Mountain fire in North Carolina.

The fire started at a popular hiking trail at Pilot Mountain State Park, WFMY reports. Officials praised the state’s prescribed burn program for helping reduce the fire load in the area.

The fire, which started Saturday, was expected to take several days to contain.
