Pilot Killed in Helicopter Crash at Oregon’s White River Fire

SANDY, Oregon – A pilot died on Monday in a helicopter crash while fighting a 1,100-acre wildfire on the Mt. Hood National Forest, according to KTVZ.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Rachel Pawlitz told KVTZ that the Type 1 Kmax helicopter was dropping water on the White River Fire, in rough terrain, when the crash occurred.

The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office and Forest Service resources responded to the crash site. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been notified.
