Wildfire covered nearly 5.7-square-miles
LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say aircraft and hand crews are battling a wildfire spreading quickly on a remote and rugged mountain at an edge of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada.
National Park Service spokeswoman Christie Vanover says the fire reported late Wednesday on Bonelli Peak covered nearly 5.7-square-miles (14.8-square- kilometers) by Friday.
She says no injuries are reported, no structures are threatened and area roads remain open.
Vanover says single-engine and heavy firefighting air tankers and helicopters are scooping water from the Colorado River reservoir behind Hoover Dam to fight flames east of the lake and north of Temple Bar marina in Arizona.
Fire officials say nearly 50 firefighters are battling the fire with no containment reported.
Officials say it was sparked by an unspecified natural cause.
