Forest Fires Raging in North Macedonia

Two men detained for setting fires

SKOPJE, North Macedonia (AP) — At least a dozen forest fires have been raging for days in several regions of North Macedonia, as firefighters and local volunteers are battling to control them.

The National Crises Management Center announced on Saturday that 70 hectares (175 acres) of forest are burning in Galicia National Park in the south. Authorities said firefighters were forced to stop operating due to the risk of unexploded ordnance from World War I battles.

Police say two men were detained for setting fires in open areas.
