Wyoming Wildfire, Containment Grow

Wildfire has burned at least 37 square miles

 

 

WHEATLAND, Wyo. (AP) — A wildfire in southeast Wyoming that has forced the evacuation of more than 50 residences has grown, but firefighters have been able to increase containment nonetheless.

The fire is burning west of Wheatland in areas of Albany and Platte counties.

As of Thursday afternoon, it has burned about 37 square miles (96 square kilometers) since it started last Sunday. Red flag warnings were posted for the area of the fire on Thursday.

However, firefighters were able to increase containment to 33 percent of the fire perimeter, up from about 23 percent containment the previous day.

Temperatures were expected to be cooler on Friday.

Officials say several primary structures and a number of outbuildings have likely been destroyed by the fire.
